Tyler Cameron: Blackhawks Training Camp is ON!
The Blackhawks showed up for their physicals yesterday which signals that training camp IS ON!
Let's jump into the headlines and questions I would like to include as conversation starters as we kick off the on-ice activities:

First?
Guess so.
Tyler, nice work on the consistent blogs throughout the dog days of summer.
I think all of us can't wait to see how this team evolves from camp to 1st game and beyond. Loved the Lehner signing, OK with the Cal signing and not sure about the Maata signing.
I'd expect the F competition to be furious.
Also very anxious to see if a guy like KK has upped his game over the summer and comes out fighting for a slot to stay with the big club. |

It's been a long summer. So glad camp is starting and looking forward to the exhibition games next week. IMO Stan did a good job improving the roster. Now it's up to Colliton and his staff to put the pieces in their proper places and implement his system. |

Now we can finally see what the Hawk brain trust is thinking on the conundrum that is 3C |

Two years ago there was talk about the Hawks playing like the first year Knights team, preasuring the opposition all over the ice. This forward group may be capable of that style especially in the Hawks zone hopefully to help and support a questionable defense. It's not a formula for playoff hockey but it would be fun to watch until the Hawk's defensive prospects are ready to play for the big club. |

Finally Hockey is back. Tyler another great blog you wrote.
Maybe this might sound a bit premature , but when will Stan or colliton come out and address certain players medical statuses ( de HAAN, Crawford etc)
Chicago at least on paper is a much better team overall from Last year's squad, what happens to Colliton if Chicago is starting out with a losing record that snowballs for a month or 2 ? Would in your opinion Stan relieve him of his duties or take the wait and see approach ?

Super blog, as always, Tyler.
I am really interested to see if Colliton constantly moves players from LW to RW and who is going to play RD.
LW or RW (or maybe even center in some cases)
Nylander
Kubalik
Wedin
Carpenter
Shaw
Smith
Perlini
Quenneville
Sikura
RD
Seabs
Murphy
Gus?
DeHaan?
Others?
I hope they make major cuts to the roster early on so that only players with a legitimate chance to make the roster are playing together for the last two weeks of camp. This team starts overseas and then has a heavy home schedule. They need to come out of the gate playing some good hockey and banking some points. |

I still think Bowman makes another significant move, either during camp or early in the season.
Rockford should also be really fun to watch this season. |

I would agree with that, I would not be surprised if they talk to Carolina about Justin Faulk unless the Ducks already have consummated that deal . I think if the dominoes fall in the place between 90 and 95 points this year for this team.
Hopefully out of the group of Perlini,Kubilik,Nylander,Wedin , and maybe even Dach Or that other Russian kid that everybody’s high on, hopefully a couple of those guys stepped in and have a forceful impact. Call it Kool-Aid or whatever but I think Bowman did a good job this summer. |

Last year many people on this board lamented the lack of above average, good to very good players on this team. Props to StanBo for going out and getting those players. Even if it doesn't work out and they miss the playoffs, they should be more fun to watch and in more games than last year.
Let's get it on!!!
Also, I'm an unabashed optimist, so I'm going with 2nd in the division and to the WCF.

Thanks for the write up Tyler. Nice to see we survived the summer.
I'm interested to see what we get from Gus. To me, he is one of those guys that has been improving year over year and I think he knows this will be his shot to prove last year wasn't a fluke. |

Yeah talk cost nothing...does he win us a Cup or fill the long term dynamic and fit the Cap numbers to drive to a Cup?
The issue is what they guy wants in a year.
just like with Gus.
(Only comparing the situations)
If Faulk PREFERS being a full blown UFA status and a possible boatload of overpay, he will stand firm, and I just don't see any of the three teams presently with cap Space trading assets for aRENTAL. |

Any of the forwards besides Kane Toews Strome DeBrincat and Shaw who arrive with out a hunger to their training camp game might be in for a surprise demotion or trade.
I just don't think it is set in stone that Rockford is a set line-up or that the car ride is a long one from game one, past game ten for the kids, and past Christmas and the trading deadline...
They will give Kubalik is respect as a Euro vet, do daily evals on Dacher, and not put Icehogs out of competition until they do it themselves. |

And people will still say the Jets will finish ahead of the Hawks. |

Dach out today in concussion protocol (damn you, MN!)
de Haan is out another 2-3 weeks with the shoulder. |
|
|
|
SOUNDS LIKE A BIT MORE THAN BRUISING:
The Blackhawks released medical updates on three players as training camp opened on Friday at Fifth Third Arena.
Kirby Dach, who suffered a shoulder injury after taking a hard fall into the boards in the final game of the 2019 Traverse City Prospect Tournament on Tuesday, is in concussion protocol and isn't practicing with the team.
Calvin de Haan skated an hour before practice began, but did not participate in team drills as he recovers from shoulder surgery and a groin strain. The team expects him to be "out of the lineup" for 2-3 weeks.
Philipp Kurashev, who also skated before practice, is listed a day-to-day with a left knee/shoulder contusion. He sustained the injury on Tuesday in the Traverse City finale after being boarded by a Minnesota Wild prospect. |

Opens the question, at least for me, of when the NHL needs to step in and lay down the law with teams. One guy getting targeted and injured, that could just be an over-exuberant or jerky opposing player. Four (at least) guys targeted in a showcase tournament (nothing on the line), that's the coaching. |

Hmm, last we heard from de Haan was that he was ‘ahead of schedule’ and ‘planned’ to be ready for the start of camp.
And didn’t the Hawks say that Dach’s injury was ‘minor’ and shouldn’t keep him from the start of camp.
At least the McDonough spin machine is in mid-season form. |

Yeah, and Dach was at all the pre-season team hoopla, photo shoots, etc., of course.
Hoping that means it really is not serious, but can't concussions take time to show up? |
